Overview

AOBI and IKO are two personal music video projects built around sci-fi world-building — two unrelated concepts unified by a shared visual aesthetic. Both were shot across a mix of natural locations and constructed sets, blending practical environments with styled, futuristic art direction. I wrote and produced the music, designed the costuming, cast and directed a small ensemble of performers, and shot, edited, and released both videos independently.

The Challenge

Building a believable sci-fi world on a personal project budget means every decision has to work harder — no massive art department, no studio backlot. The challenge was creating a cohesive futuristic atmosphere using a mix of real locations and minimal set-building, while directing a small cast to perform convincingly inside that constructed world.

My Role

Writer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor — full creative ownership across both projects. I composed and produced the original music, designed the costuming and styling, directed a small ensemble of performers on location and on set, and handled all camera work, editing, and color.

Prototype & Handoff

As a fully independent production, there was no external handoff — I managed pre-production (casting, styling, location scouting), production (directing and shooting), and post (edit, color, sound) entirely solo end-to-end.

Visual Direction

Explain the look and feel of the work. Mention the visual system, composition choices, color, typography, image treatment, motion language, or other design decisions that shaped the final result.

Design System

Costuming and color palette were built to bridge the gap between natural locations and constructed sets — using silhouette, texture, and lighting to make outdoor environments feel as intentional and futuristic as the built spaces. The two videos share a unified visual language despite depicting entirely unrelated concepts, so consistency in wardrobe, palette, and camera style was what tied them together as a body of work.

Outcome

Two complete, independently released music videos with original scores, full art direction, and a unified sci-fi visual identity — demonstrating the ability to conceive, direct, and finish ambitious creative work without a traditional production team.

Reflection

AOBI & IKO proved that world-building doesn't require a studio budget — it requires consistency of vision. Directing a small cast inside a hybrid of real and constructed environments taught me how much atmosphere comes from camera discipline and costuming rather than location alone.
